First Citrix User Group Community (CUGC) event in New York City.
The Citrix User Group Community (CUGC) is an independent group of technology professionals that strives to be the voice of Citrix technology users and managers. CUGC is dedicated to helping members and their businesses excel through education, knowledge sharing, networking and influence. While Citrix sponsors and attends the events, the coordination and execution of the events are done through CUGC.
CUGC recently formed its metro New York group to bring together Citrix engineers to learn more about Citrix tools, best practices, and to network with others in the industry. The first event was on March 23 and was hosted by Depository Trust & Clearance Corporation (DTCC) in downtown New York City. Here’s a recap of the exciting first event:

The turnout was great, with around 60 people attending the event.

The local CUGC lead, James Ma, (@JamesWMa) started by introducing the event and the goals of the meetup.

Then, Dan Greer from ExtraHop talked about wire data, a new source of real-time business and IT insight.

The ExtraHop platform gives you access to valuable, real-time IT and business insights from wire data on your network that was previously untapped. Dan ended his presentation with a demo of his tool.

Alex Gisbert from Citrix took over to talk about Netscaler.
He showed us the value of Citrix NetScaler with Unified Gateway.
- One URL (consolidation)
- Support for Linux Android and IOS
- Customizable portal, etc.

Alex explained the basics about NetScaler ADC.
We discussed the different NetScaler platforms in this article: Lab: Part 5 – NetScaler 11 Architecture and Installation.

Citrix NetScaler, a full-fledged application delivery controller (ADC), recently introduced a new, lighter version.
This new product builds on industry leading standards, like docker containers and XML/JSON web-based APIs, making it both a minimum need for new resources while also being the most secure.

The CPX is lightweight and easier to place into production than the traditional ADC.

We also had a look at the NetScaler Platform Lineup.

Nothing really new here, but it is always great to discuss NetScaler. We concluded the event with an open discussion about various Citrix topics (Octoblu, LTSR, etc).

It is great to have an in-person meetup in New York for Citrix engineers, as there have not been any active groups in recent years. Meeting face-to-face and discussing all things Citrix is great for professional growth and development; CitrixGuru looks forward to future events. Well done, James Ma and the NYC CUGC team, for putting on a solid first event–stay tuned for the next meetup soon!
