Microsoft Partnership
Citrix and Microsoft have been buddies for almost 25 years. And while rumors still swirl that Microsoft could buy Citrix, Synergy was a great opportunity to reaffirm the partnership and to share the accomplishments since its announcement last year.
We learned that Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, NetScaler SD-WAN, and NetScaler VPX GSLB are available and popular (only 500 deployments) on Microsoft Azure Marketplace, and that the two companies are working hard to improve the integration between their products, especially Citrix XenMobile with Microsoft Intune.
Citrix highlighted that everything that was promised at the Synergy 2016 was delivered. For example, XenApp/XenDesktop Essentials on Microsoft Azure was announced last year and was delivered in April 2017. Brad Anderson demoed some of the announcements made last year. Brad also said that Skype for Business was only optimized for the Xen familly and that we hit the 200k daily sessions. It was great, we all love Brad but really nothing new.
Announced:
- Support for the new Windows 10 S operating system with Citrix Receiver UWP
- Secure Browser Essentials on Microsoft Azure is a simple cloud based offering for secure remote access to the internet that isolates end user internet browsing from enterprise endpoints and networks
- Support for Microsoft Skype for Business on Google Chromebooks
Citrix support for Windows 10 S was displayed as a major announcement as it allows support for Win32 apps but is really only a new version of Citrix Receiver developed for the Universal Windows Platform (UWP). If you want to access Win32 apps, what is the point of using Windows 10 S?
